1. Description of Services

As your Master of Ceremonies (MC), the MC’s role includes:

  1. The supply of Married by Court’s MC Guide as well as any relevant resources pertaining to your reception, to help guide your decision making and create the reception you imagine.

  2. The creation of a run sheet for your day at least two weeks prior to your wedding date, approved by the couple, which will be sent by the MC to all relevant vendors at least one week prior to your wedding date.

  3. The creation of a bespoke reception script, including the provision of draft ceremony scripts and script adjustment until both parties agree on the final script.

  4. Should the clients wish to have a rehearsal of the bridal party’s entrance to the reception, the facilitation of this at the ceremony rehearsal.

  5. Services of an experienced and organised MC, on-site from the end of the ceremony to the start of the dance floor (whether for the couple’s first dance or for the start of the music), including calling names for family photos, taking care of any details as agreed upon in the reception script (for example, lighting candles), ensuring your day runs as closely to the agreed run sheet as possible (including moving guests to where they need to be), hosting your ceremony, ensuring your day runs as smoothly as possible, and any other responsibilities as agreed upon by the MC and the clients.

2. The Clients’ Responsibilities

  1. The clients agree to communicate with the MC on matters pertaining to their day in a timely manner, understanding that delaying their replies, especially in the days preceeding their wedding day, may impact the MC’s ability to implement any changes.

  2. If the reception includes a remembrance candle, or any other special feature(s), the client is responsible for providing all of the equipment required and making sure it is in working order.

  3. The actual writing of any speeches (i.e., Married by Court will not partake in any writing pertaining to the client’s speeches).

  4. If the clients choose to have a rehearsal for their bridal party entrance to the reception, this must occur at the same time as their ceremony rehearsal, the date and time of which must be approved by the celebrant in writing prior to the rehearsal.

  5. Any changes to this agreement including, but not limited to, the date, time and/or location of the reception must be communicated in writing by the clients and approved by the MC in writing prior to the event. Any change to the venue or time of the reception due to bad weather or other reasons on the day of the event will need to be communicated to the MC at least two hours prior to the event to ensure there is sufficient travel time to the alternative venue or that the updated time is able to be attended by the MC. Should this not be followed, the MC cannot be held responsible for being late or unavailable.

3. Conditions

  1. The MC and the clients understand the MC’s role is that of a Master of Ceremonies and pertains only to their reception (from the end of their ceremony to the start of their dance floor) unless otherwise agreed upon.

  2. Any timing and other aspects for which the MC is responsible are at the discretion of the MC should any disruptions arise but will remain as close to the timeline and plan for the day as possible, as agreed upon in the run sheet.

  3. The client is responsible for obtaining permission from their photographer before sharing images with the MC. Should the client not agree that the MC may use images and stories from the event for any means of promotion, including advertising and display on a website, blog or social media, notice must be given in writing. Clients waive the right to payment, royalties, or any other consideration for the use of images or stories.

  4. Any resources supplied to the client remains the MC’s intellectual property, and at no time are the clients permitted to duplicate, copy, share, sell or reproduce any content. The only exception to this is the documents personal to the couple - for example, their reception script and run sheet.

  5. The MC will not be held liable for any issues beyond their control, including but not limited to force majeure, Acts of God, bad weather, accidents, lighting, interference from guests or photographers, other service providers’ performances or products, loss of any property or goods by the clients, their wedding suppliers and their guests attending the wedding.

  6. Any liability on the part of the MC will be limited to the amount of monies paid by the clients.

  7. The MC reserves the right to remove themselves and any of their equipment at any time if there appears to be a potential danger to themselves or their equipment. This includes but is not limited to intoxicated people; hazardous activities such as fireworks; careless discharge of firearms; heavy smoking or drug use; nudity; and illegal activities. No refund or compensation will be given in such cases.

4. Cancellations, Changes & Postponements

  1. If the clients choose to cancel their event, the following conditions apply:

    1. If the clients cancel within 30 days of the event taking place, the MC reserves the right to charge the full agreed fee, including for services due to be performed on the wedding day. Any further refund will be at the discretion of the MC.

    2. If the clients choose to cancel their event outside of the above timeline, the MC will refund all previously paid fees, excluding the non-refundable booking fee.

  2. If the clients choose to postpone their event, the following may occur:

    1. If the clients postpone their event within 14 days of the event taking place, it will require another agreement to be signed and another booking fee to be paid.

    2. If the clients postpone their event outside of the above timeline, the clients may transfer their booking fee to ONE other date within 12 months.

    3. If the MC is unable to commit to the postponement date, they reserve the right to retain the non-refundable booking fee and will assist in finding a suitable replacement.

  3. If the MC is unable to perform the ceremony due to unforeseen circumstances, but with prior notice (i.e., more than one month), the MC shall be allowed to make reasonable attempts to provide a replacement MC at no additional cost to the client OR if the client prefers, the MC will cancel this agreement for services and refund the full fees paid, including the booking fee.

    In such case, the MC will provide the couple with all prepared documentation as applicable, up to and including the part of the reception creation process the MC and the client are at when this situation occurs.

  4. In the unlikely event that the MC is unable to perform the ceremony, with very little prior notice (i.e., up to one month prior to the event), for unforeseen circumstances including, but not limited to ill health or vehicular accident, the MC shall be allowed to make reasonable attempts to provide a replacement MC at no additional cost to the client. If the MC must cancel this agreement for services, the client will be refunded the full fees paid, including the booking fee.

    In such case, the MC will provide the replacement MC OR the client with all documentation prepared for their reception and make all reasonable attempts to ensure that the reception runs as planned with the client.


    5. Fee Payment & Schedule

    1. The total investment for the client for Married by Court’s MC package is NZ$1,050.00.

    2. Payment schedule will apply as follows:

      1. A non-refundable booking fee of 20% of the total investment upon signature of this agreement, and no booking will be deemed confirmed until the booking fee has been received.

      2. The remaining amount will be due four weeks prior to the wedding date.

    3. Any additional travel and/or accommodation fees will be payable by the client four weeks prior to the wedding day, unless otherwise agreed.

    4. If final payment is not received (and no prior arrangement has been made), the MC reserves the right to not be present on the agreed upon date and the client will still be charged for the total amount.
